Pope Francis has established the celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and Elderly beginning this year on the fourth Sunday of July, near the feast day of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus.
The First World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated on Sunday, July 25. The theme chosen by Pope Francis for this first commemoration is “I am with you always” (Mt 28:20). This theme expresses the closeness of the Lord and the Church to every older person, especially in these challenging times of the Covid pandemic. It is a day to honor and thank our Seniors through acknowledgment and prayer.
OLR will be celebrating our Grandparents and Elders
at each Mass the weekend of July 24/25.
Please take a prayer card or prayer shawl square as you leave Mass.
