For the next few weeks, I have asked our organist and choirmaster to use the pastor’s letter to explain the way forward for our parish music program.             Fr. Longenecker

Dear Friends,

Following my letter last week, I would like to briefly tell you more about another new group, here at Our Lady of the Rosary; the Corpus Christi Choir.

Last month, for the feast of Corpus Christi, Mr. Tommy Curtin organized a group to sing at the 10:30 Mass. This was a great success, and we have decided to make this an established choir, with its name taken from the day of its debut. The Corpus Christi Choir will be the largest musical group at Our Lady of the Rosary and will sing on the first Sunday of the month, starting in August. Repertoire will consist of more accessible, but high-quality sacred music, such as Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus, Tallis’s If Ye Love Me, and other choral favorites.

The ability to read music is, of course, desirable, but not required. Scores and recordings of parts will be sent out in advance via email, and there will be one rehearsal at the end of each month. This is a choir that would be ideal for those of you who are unable to commit to a weekly rehearsal but would still like to sing at Mass. We will have section leaders providing a solid foundation on every part, so if you are more of a listener than a reader, this will be an excellent group for you.

More information, as well as a sign-up form, will be sent out in July. This is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys singing to contribute to the beauty of the Mass. If you have any questions, please to not hesitate to send me an email or see me after Mass.

With best wishes,

Alan Montgomery
