The St. Vincent de Paul Society – Our Lady of the Rosary Conference has a mission to help the less fortunate in our parish, the surrounding area, and the wider community. As part of this mission, SVdP may use some of its available funds to assist those in financial difficulty. The following procedures will be followed in giving assistance:
Direct cash assistance is not available. The maximum amount of assistance is $100 per household per six month period up to a total of $200 per calendar year. Assistance should focus only on those items critical to the safety, security or health of the individual requesting the assistance. Examples include electric, gas, water or heating bills. Assistance will be provided for legitimate, existing bills or obligations owed to verifiable businesses (those having a tax ID). A request for funds must be made directly by the person needing assistance by calling SVdP-OLR at Mother Teresa House at 864-412-7101 and leaving a message that includes your full name and phone number where you can be reached. Those requesting funds will be called back in a timely manner to set up an appointment for an interview and to submit the required documentation. Interviews are by appointment only. If the interview is positive and the request is approved, payment will be submitted directly to the agency or business by SVdP-OLR.
Ministry to the Homebound or in Nursing Homes
Members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society will visit the homebound or residents in nursing homes on a weekly basis, and bring them communion if requested. For more information, or to request a visit, please contact the Our Lady of the Rosary Church office at 864-422-1648.
Volunteers in this ministry attend funerals of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish members who otherwise would not have many attending because of their ages or family situations. To volunteer or for information, call the Our Lady of the Rosary Church office at 864-422-1648.
Mother Teresa House Ministry
Mother Teresa House is located at 110 James Drive, in the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood. It serves as a social outreach center for the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood, the Shemwood Apartment complex, and the homeless population residing in the motels across Augusta and Mauldin Roads. The mission of Mother Teresa House is to provide a safe space where residents of the served communities can come for direct help in the areas of emergency food assistance, nursing based medical screening and assessment, with some physician participation, and telephonic referral to other Greenville agencies offering a large variety of services to the poor and disadvantaged. If you are in need of any of the services provided by Mother Teresa House, please call 864-412-7101 and leave a message that includes your name and phone number. MTH is open to the public every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. All in need of assistance are welcome.
Litter Pickup Along James Drive for OLR
On the first Saturday of each month, members of SVdP pick up litter along James Drive and around the church office and food pantry. Anyone wishing to help in this ministry can call the church office at 864-422-1648.
